Services
 |
Front Office We
maintain complete and comprehensive medical health records on all pets. We monitor your
pets vaccination status and send reminder notices to let you know what they need and
when they need it. |
 |
Exam Rooms We
have two examination rooms that we use to evaluate your pet. We place all large pets on
our hydraulic table for better examining and weighing. The rooms are equipped with
instruments that enable us to evaluate eye problems ( such as ulcers, tear production
problems and glaucoma screening), place AVID microchips under the pets skin, and perform
vaccinations and simple wound care.
|
| Surgery We
offer most routine soft tissue surgeries. Orthopedic surgery and more
advanced soft tissue surgery is referred to one of the several specialty
hospitals in the area..
We maintain a meticulously clean room for surgery and use only sterilized
instruments for each and every procedure. Pets are placed on a warm water
circulating pad for their comfort and to maintain their body temperature
during surgery. While under anesthesia, your pets' heart rate, rhythm,
respiratory rate, oxygen and carbon dioxide levels are continuously
monitored. One of our doctors and technicians is also at your pets' side the
entire time. |
 |
We require current pre-anesthetic blood screening to help assess your pets'
health status before using anesthesia. Multi-modal pain relief medication is
given before, during and after each procedure.
Laboratory
Our hospital has modern equipment for comprehensive blood tests with same day results
available in most cases.
We offer the following tests:
Blood Chemistries - liver, kidney, thyroid, glucose, and electrolyte evaluation
Fecal and urinalysis
Feline leukemia, aids, heartworm and Bartonella testing
Lyme, ehrlichia, anaplasmosis and heartworm testing for dogs
Electrocardiograms - performed with same day consultation with a cardiologist
Digital Imaging - High quality, consistent films are produced using our automatic processor
Ultrasound - we have an ultrasound technician come to our practice and can have
results within 2 hours or we refer the patient to a speciality practice.
| We upgraded to digital radiography for several reasons.
First and foremost, we are able to more quickly produce high quality images
with less radiation exposure to our clients' pets and our employees. We can
now print images to a DVD for our clients and email them to specialists as
needed. |

Dentistry
Our hospital is equipped with an ultrasonic scalar which enables us to do a thorough
cleaning of your pets teeth. We then use a polisher to smooth the surfaces of the teeth ,
followed by a fluoride treatment to help strengthen the teeth.Dental filing of incisors
and molars in rabbits is performed with a dremel tool. |
| Boarding We
have three separate climate controlled wards to house pets. Pets are placed in indoor runs
for exercise. We feed Hills Science Diet food or your pets personal food brought by you.
We welcome any small personal items to keep your pet company.
Canine influenza vaccine is now required for all of our canine boarders.
|
 |
Boarding at Penn Animal Hospital is provided as a service to our veterinary clientele.
A pre-boarding examination is required if your pet is new to us or has not been to our
hospital in over a year. We also require dogs, cats and ferrets to be current on distemper
and rabies vaccinations. Dogs and cats are also required to be vaccinated against
bordatella (kennel cough).
Your pets are cared for under veterinary technician supervision and the veterinarian is
notified immediately if necessary.
Grooming
We offer routine bathing as well as medicated skin and ear treatments. We
offer complete body shaving for health and comfort reasons.
| Country Doghouse The
Country Doghouse is a separate building adjacent to our hospital. It is the home of our
pharmacy, nutrition, and pet supply center. |
 |
The Country Doghouse is stocked with an extensive selection of antibiotics, pain
relievers and other medications and supplements prescribed for your pet. Numerous treats
and gifts for the pet and pet lover alike are also available.
We will happily refill any prescriptions for your pet as long as an examination has
been performed by one of our veterinarians within the last six months.
We strongly recommend that you keep your pets on monthly parasite
prevention all year round, for their sake, as well as, your own (some parasites
that pets get can be transmitted to people).
